I agree with all the complimentary things cited about this jacket, BUT sizing is an issue. I am 5'5", weighed 134 lbs as of this am weigh in, usually wear a medium, but followed recommendations on this and other web sites to size up. Large was too small: could not wear a sweater underneath it without it feeling tight across the shoulders. When the jacket was zipped up, I could hardly get a water bottle in the designated pocket, could not sit down without jacket becoming way too tight at the bottom, had the frequently described problem with cell phone giving an odd silhouette, and a camera in camera pocket bulged even without its case. In short, the large size did not function sufficiently well to keep it. XL is not currently available, and I would order that if it were, especially at current sale price. Very much liked the fit of the Magellan's brand multipocket vest, and will probably try their multipocket jacket.

I recently wore this jacket on a trip to China, and it proved so practical and valuable I ended up wearing it every day. The numerous pockets were extremely handy. I carried my camera, extra batteries and memory card, cash in different amounts and in different pockets, sun hat, sunglasses, tissues, valuables, sunscreen, etc. in perfect comfort. It is amazing how much this jacket holds, while still looking great, and the items are easily retrieved. Nice "secret pockets" to keep cash safe. It was great to be able to remove the sleeves to change it to the vest, and the removed sleeves can be folded and fit easily into one of the pockets. I look forward to taking this jacket on all my trips.

It's everything that I wanted in a jacket that can carry my Ipod, phone, camera etc. when I'm flying. It's handy to have all of that in my pocket instead of my carry on which is packed overhead and difficult to get to. I'm a petite woman's size 18, and it doesn't make me look larger! It's truly magical. I ordered the XXL and it fit well at the hips and bust except that the sleeves were really long on me. I had them shortened, and now I love the jacket even more. I'm considering purchasing a second one in a different color.

I have an exofficio travel vest, which is great, but not suitable for a woman to wear in general. Too safari-ish. This has all the carrying capacity of the vest but is also a nice windbreaker type jacket for all types of travel. My family didn't know that it was a travel vest until they saw all I carried within! Buy a size up to allow room for your gear.

I found it a bit longer on me than in the pix which I liked. I ordered a size up to give me room for t-neck/sweater if needed. Fabric is good weight not heavy nor flimsy; zip off sleeves/pockets are as described. Very pleased with the purchase.

As for the sizing issues, I went to the Scottevest website and ordered based on their size chart, which was perfect for me. The jacket looks great and can be used for both formal and informal occasions. I have yet to find all of the pockets. : )

This jacket with removable sleeves does have a ton of pockets and places to put things. Really helps get through travel security as one just takes off jacket. Watch sizing. I actually got one too large first given the cautions. Perhaps check actual measurements to be sure. The red color is a muted one which will work better than a very bright red. Sleeves are long enough and it is a comfortable jacket.

Only received my Scottevest jacket a few days ago and had a great time discovering all the hidden pockets. Unzipped the sleeves and it makes a perfect vest as well as a very warm jacket. My first order was for an XL as the reviews say it runs small - not so. Had to exchange it for a L. I am 5'3, 133 lbs and have broad shoulders, so I generally wear a M/L top. The L is slightly big, but will need the extra room when I start filling up the pockets. It appears to be made quite well, although, several of the inside zippers didn't open/close too well, so I used some zipper wax, which helped. Will definitely watch the video again to figure out what all the pockets are for. I just can't wait to try it out!

This is a great jacket. It really does repell rain and stains and is lightweight. All the pockets are fantastic and very utilitarian. So many things can be stored, leaving the hands free for other things. No need to really carry a purse. Fit is true to size.

It worked perfectly on my trip to Yosemite. Lots of pockets for everything and removable sleeves to make it all weather. It came with numbered cards to suggest what you put in each pocket. I suggest that there be some key/map to these numbers and their locations. Once you take them out, you forget where they were.

The fabric is very nice, construction is excellent. Very water-resistant, as advertised. The jacket has more pockets than most people will ever use. I loaded it with my electronics, water bottle, guide book, maps, glasses, money & cards, phone, MP3 player and headphones, keys and snacks. It was very heavy but it still hung very nicely. It was hard to see that I was carrying all that. My only quibble is the placement of the specially designed see-through phone & Ipod pockets on the inside. While they are very conveniently located for viewing, they were designed for male chests, not well-endowed female chests. Well-endowed women (like myself) will find bottom corners of large cell phones creating mildly unusual side profiles. I don't put my phone in those pockets.

I just returned the jacket for a replacment size larger than ordered. The jacket fitted nicely without putting anything in the pockets which defeats the purpose of purchasing the jacket., I like the way the jacket looks and it is light weigh.

I bought this for my wonderful wife for planned travel this year. After the Baltic last year and Venice to Monte Carlo and Rome to Fort Lauderdale this year on or cruises we were certainly ready to make travel AND GOING THROUGH SECURITY easier. This SCOTTIEVEST will do all of that.

Okay - I am only rating this a three right now because I did not take the advice of other reviewers and order the size up. Most of my jackets are either Medium or Large and so I ordered a Large. The large fit fine if I didn't put anything in any of the pockets. :-( Obviously missing the point. So, I just sent the large back and have requested an x-large. After that comes in and I get a chance to use it (an upcoming trip to Vietnam and Australia) I will write another review on its use.

I was excited to try this coat out. I followed the other recommendations, and ordered a size up and that was a great idea. The front/side pockets don't seem to be in the correct position for me to put my hands in. There are alot of 'useless' pockets-super small pockets for SD cards and such, but I wouldn't use them. I thought the pockets for the cell phone and iPod were placed weird-when they were full, the jacket was uncomfortable. It's a nice concept, but just doesn't work great for me.

It's great looking and will save us a lot of money on weight. It's pretty heavy for Singapore, but airports are usually cold. My husband and I are very happy with them.

I love the jacket with its many pockets. You need to order a larger size then you normally wear. It runs small. Other then the size it is a wonderful coat.

The Women's Essential Scottevest Jacket with removable sleeves is pure genius for the savvy traveller. It weighs next to nothing, is incredibly roomy with multiple pockets for everything you may need and eliminates the need to carry a purse ! Very secure and discreet this is the only thing I take with me on an airplane and I never have to worry about losing my wallet or purse.

While I haven't gotten to actually use the jacket yet, I'm looking forward to doing so! So far, I'm impressed by just how much storage there is, and how well my iPhone works through the thin protective material. Some people suggested getting a size larger, however, when I did that the jacket came too big. For me and my friend, the size was correct by going off the measurements.

This jacket is the best jacket ever for travel. It is not too heavy and allows for layering and you can store everything in it that you would need for walking tours and leave your purse behind. I like it because the small size was perfect for me since I usually require extra small or petite sizes. I sent back the red colored jacket as the color was actually a rust color which I found very objectionable, and exchanged it for the sand color.

I use this jacket for my electronic gear (a growing list) and my jewelry, credit cards and money. Nothing of value goes into my purse anymore. Going through airport security, I put it into the bin on top of my shoes. No problems!

I bought this for a trip to Turkey where you can't have any more than a 33 lb suitcase on inner country travel on the airlines. I haven't taken my trip yet but once I tried the jacket I didn't want to wait for the trip. I guess I will have to order another one soon. Just love it.

The jacket is exactly what I needed for a trip to Rome in March. I love all of the pockets, and it fits well. However, women that wear jewelry should beware, because the cylindrically-shaped cord keepers that run up the edge of the zipper in the front will catch any long chains that you wear and break them when you take the jacket off. I almost lost a $1000 pendant when my chain was broken.

What a clever jacket with all the discreet pockets! The jacket does run a bit small...if you need warmth order a larger size and wear with sweaters. I'm a petite and the sleeves were a bit too long, but have hemmed them up. TSA will go through the jacket especially if you have ipod speaker wires in place. One small carry-on along with this jacket makes for streamlined air travel. Thanks!

I ordered this to take on a trip to Israel. I ordered a larger size than I normally would and it still fit tight. It seemed that it would be way too warm to wear to a desert country even tho I loved all the pockets. I sent it back but may reorder it later in a larger size.
(Posted on 2/11/10)
I really like the design of this jacket and the fabric...however; on the largest pocket, the zipper sticks and will not completely zip. I'm very frustrated to have to send it back for a new one. It's inconvenient and we don't have much time until we leave on our trip.

I like the styling of this jacket , it fits well, and I used several pockets to advantage during my recent trip. But I lost small items like my camera in the jacket when they slid through openings in the bottom of jacket, from one side to the other. Also any significant weight--part of a guidebook, small flashlight and tiny camera--caused the jacket to pull forward hurting my neck after a couple of days. There is no weight management. And a light rain quickly soaked through the jacket.

I love this jacket. Weight is great - stops wind and keeps you warm, but very light fabric. The pockets are fantastic. Can't wait to take it on an airplane fully loaded with "stuff". I did have to have the sleeves shortened and lost the benefit of the inside cuff. Doesn't wrinkle. I would highly recommend this jacket to any woman to replace many in her closet. Extremely functional, but looks good at same time. Also ordered men's Essential Jacket for my husband and he loves it also.

I love this jacket. I purchased this for my parents for their trip to Europe. They absolutely loved them. Extra added security. So I decided to purchase one for me seeing that I do quite a bit of traveling as well. Needless to say, this jacket is perfect for traveling or shopping, everything right on you no purse or bag needed.

Not exactly the most stylish, but certainly adaptable and forgiving for fit and feel. Used it for an end-of-summer trip to Italy, where it got to 18-20 C at night. Comfortable enough with fully-loaded pockets to sleep in on planes. I had not expected the hidden ribbed cuffs, which comfortably let sleeves quickly be pushed and held up. A couple of zippers were sticky to start with but eased with use. And I've discovered I can zip the sleeves on and off without removing the vest!

Correct size choice is the only caveat for this jacket. It's light weight, packable, has all the pockets and weather protection for documents and items that I even need - and that's a lot of stuff! Layered over sweaters or fleeces, it's a toasty as can be. Or just over a tee in the rain, it works to keep the wet and chill off bare skin. Mine is permanently in my 'must have' bag for traveling!
(Posted on 5/6/09)
Perfect! This works great for travel and lessens the load in my carry on bag without looking chunky. Love the zip off sleeves. Would love to see the women's style in more colors and lighter fabrics.
(Posted on 5/6/09)
This is a great jacket! However, a word of warning check the actual measurements before ordering to decide between a man's or a woman's. I found the woman's XXL too small.
(Posted on 4/8/09)
I bought this vest so I wouldn't have to carry a purse in addition to carry on luggage. I found that it is more versitle than that. I also wear it to amusement parks and other areas where a purse becomes a hinderance (think serious shopping). When the weather demands a heavier coat, I just zip off the sleeves and wear it underneath. It didn't look bulky until I added the bottle of water and the paperback book. I would buy this again and would recommend it.

When I received the email on this item, I was making plans for my trip to the Holy Land. I needed something that I could use for my ID, money, cell phone, and etc. I was looking for something different instead of the waist pouches. Because of high crime and they did a lot of pick pocketing or cutting the straps off of pocket books and front pouches the travel agency discouraged us in using them. This jacket came in handy and met all of my needs for things and I felt secured.

This has the potential to be a superb jacket with all of the pockets if they fix one problem and that's why I rated it a 1 star and returned it for a refund. Zippers on those pockets are terrible and make opening and closing extremely difficult , that is if they open at all. They need to upgrade the zippers. The concept is wonderful but the zippers as they stand now are bad. Until the manufacturer corrects this problem I can't recommend anyone buy the product.

Saw this item while looking for a gift for my husband. We are going on a 2 week cruise and knew that this would allow for off shore ventures to be more hands free. You have to order a size up for both males and females. It fit beautifully in my normal coat size, but knew it would be too snug to start filling those pockets. Am currently waiting for my larger size returned in the mail. Great look, feel, weight--stylish!
