Easily loosens if suitcase is lifted by strap

I was thrilled with the strap, until we used it recently on non-stop trip to Hawaii. Both times, it was loose and hanging when coming off the carousel - the only reason I didn't lose it was because I had strapped it through the handle. It doesn't stay tight if the bag is lifted by the strap. From other reviews, it seems others have figured it out, but I can't see how to make it "stay" at a certain tautness., so will be returning the ones I bought to give as Christmas presents.

Combination Locking Baggage Strap and TSA combination Locking

I count on the Combination TSA approved Locking baggage strap and the TSA approved combination locking locks to keep my personal items in my suitcase safely inside, as I know there is nothing in this suitcase that is against TSA regulations. I WILL NOT ship an unlock suitcase, especially on Christmas Day! My recent purchases are replacements for other one just like this which have worn out from wear and tear by luggage handlers.
