When traveling by train, use a cable lock to secure your luggage in overhead racks so you can wander off but your bags won't.

Pack Light
If you plan to travel by train, pack as lightly as possible. Because the train timetables are so reliable in Europe, they are often at the station for a very brief time, and you'ill need to find your car and board quickly.

Rail passes for either individual or multi-country excursions can be purchased before you leave the states, and may not be available after arrival. These offer both flexibility and economy.
