Central America

Central America is a narrow isthmus of southern North America extending from Mexico southeastward to the Isthmus of Panama connecting to the Columbian Pacific Lowlands in northwestern South America. Comprised of the nations of Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua and Panama, Central America has a population of over 40 million. The laid back population and slow pace belie the natural wonders and rich cultural history. Abundant with local wildlife, the tropical rain forests are opening to eco tourism. Although a string of volcanic mountain ranges run through these small countries, the coastal marine life is abundant, the waters becoming well known for diving and deep sea fishing and the uncrowded, rocky beaches are popular with more adventurous travelers.
