  More than just a Tote
By Linda M., NM in May, 2012

•   I purchased the this tote to be used as an air travel personal item to hold my purse and miscellaneous items for a trip. I discovered it makes a great everyday purse. It is lightweight, holds tons of stuff and keeps that stuff organized. I've already recommended it to my family and friends.

  LOVE this bag!!
By Crickett D., CA in March, 2012

•   This is an AWESOME traveling bag. I'm going to use it for everyday too..it's just SOOO convenient! IPAD stores in INSIDE or OUTSIDE pocket. I love the way the bag folds and locks. You can unhook just one side and zip it open to grab something inside....and the INSIDE....very 'user friendly'. Lots of slots, pockets and places inside. The attached LED flashlight was an unexpected surprise and wow! is it handy! The smaller size is perfect # I HATE carrying huge bags# It folds up compactly and flat. All in all....I'd buy another one if this one wears out! Good Job Magellan!

  Great peace of mind!
By Jennifer R., NJ in February, 2012

•   I bought this for travel to an area that was relatively high risk for pick-pockets, etc., but with the corner rings clasped together and the bag over my shoulder (no problem with fit, although I did have a wool coat on as it was cold, so I don't know if the strap would have dug in with only, say, a T-shirt on), I felt very comfortable and had no problems at all.

The bag does have a base, but it is relatively narrow for the height of the bag - that's why it doesn't stand up very well. But I had my guide book, camera, gloves, head-covering (for religious sights) in there as well as the usual money, tissues, etc., and it closed easily. I did not find that things fell out of the pockets, which seemed sturdy enough to me.

I would definitely use this bag again - it suited my purpose without being too heavy. I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 only because the shoulder strap is a little narrow for the size of bag, and the base could do with being just a little wider too without making the bag too bulky when full.

Very good product.

  Not slash proof
By Nancy R., NC in February, 2012

•   I bought this purse and paid for overnight service after reading about security problems in Quito, where I was going to be for a month. Three huge slashes of 4 to 7 inches conducted within a few minutes or less while holding the bag clutched under my armpit looking at the smiling perpetrator, and with my husband watching like a hawk, my $300 new camera was liberated. I did not carry a wallet. So -- not much resistance in the material. Not slash proof. If there is steel mesh in the lining it doesn't work. I personally don't see any steel mesh. It is sturdy, but obviously not slash proof.

  Impressive product
By George T., MD in January, 2012

•   I purchased this product for my wife as a gift. She really likes the design and construction and immediately started using it. With the extensive anti-theft features, she feels much more confident carrying it than with more conventional purses.

  Lightweight organization
By Deb C., FL in January, 2012

•   Perfect weight for a travel handbag. The pockets for credit cards are too close to the opening to be secure but there's a zippered pocket that covers that issue. The teak color is a great neutral, like a shadow. Chose it for the iPad pocket & may end up carrying it everyday!

  OK
By Beth W., MA in January, 2012

•   It's OK. A little smaller when folded up that I would have liked (barely holds my kindle when folded) and the additional strap is way too short to used across the body for security. Pockets are flimsy. OK bag, but would have liked a longer strap. I should have ordered the larger tote.

  Needs cross-body strap!
By Playa C., CA in January, 2012

•   I wanted to like this bag, but I'm returning it for one reason. The extra security strap is way too short to wear this bag cross-body. As others have mentioned, the bag is fairly heavy, even with nothing in it, so it would be nice to be able to use this "hands free" and have extra security. Otherwise, the bag is nice. I really liked the light grey interior so it's easy to find things and the organizational pockets are thoughtful.

  Not just for travel!
By Carrie A., SC in December, 2011

•   I LOVE this bag...bought it primarily for traveling with my iPad, but use it everyday! I especially like the fact that I can leave it unzipped but iwth the sides hooked in and feel secure that no one can get things in and out.

My only comments are that it would be nice, as others have noted, to be able use the longer strap as a cross body way of carrying it. Also, my wallet has a tendency to get caught on the mesh in the interior unless I make sure to have the ring tab on the change pocket facing out.

  Almost Perfect
By Gail G., NY in October, 2011

•   I have been searching for the perfect travel bag for years, and this is almost perfect. It has one main compartment with a number of inner pockets, so it is easy to find your things. Unfortunately,it tends to get heavy after a while. If it had an alternate strap so that it could be carried across the body (girl scout style) or as a back pack, it would be more comfortable and a perfect bag.

  I love this purse!
By Elayne S., MI in October, 2011

•   I bought this purse so I could carry my iPad when traveling. I love it so much that I now use it as my everyday purse. It hold everything I need, it's a great tote, and looks very stylish when the rings are locked. I also like the feeling of security it provides. I put in a medium size "Chameleon" insert (www.chameleoninsert.com) and have a fantastically organized purse.

Felt Very Secure with This Bag
By Mary Ann H., CA in October, 2011

•   My husband and I just returned from a four-week trip to Europe. Unfortunately my husband was a victim of theft while riding on the extremely crowded Metro train in Rome. His wallet was stolen due to lack of taking proper steps for security. I, however, felt very secure while carrying my Safe Passage Tote, not only on the Metro but everywhere else we traveled in Europe. I wore my Safe Passage Tote cross body with the rings securely clasped. I would have had to have been physically assaulted for someone to steal the bag. Not only was the tote very secure, it was also very functional. I loved all of the inner pockets and was able to keep one or two inexpensive items in the outer pocket for easy access. I cannot say enough good things about the Safe Passage Tote. It definitely deserves a five-star rating.

  Small
By Antoinette F., BC in October, 2011

•   I expected it to be a little more sturdy on the inside. The pockets are flimsy and flop over if you put something to heavy in them. The strap is too short to go across your body, and could be longer, therefore I didn't find it very secure to carry with me because it kept falling off my shoulder. I like the locking mechanism to pull the wings of the tote in, but if you do that, you cannot get much inside and the iPad barely fits if you have anything on the inside. It isn't flat on the bottom, so it keeps falling over. I used it on my trip to Vegas and Hawaii on the planes, and it was o.k. but I wished I would have gotten the larger one.

  Very handy
By Marjorie A., KS in September, 2011

•   I bought this tote for a trip to Europe and found it extremely useful. My camera is a point and shoot, but not pocket-sized so I need a bag with some room in it. I agree with other reviews that say some of the pockets are a little flimsy and things fall out, but I did find pockets for everything I needed. I felt very safe with the clip and rings closed, even in Barcelona, the pick-pocket capital of the world. If I had one wish for this bag, I would want a strap to wear it across my body. (If that's what the little strap in the pocket was for, it's a bad design) Wearing it on one shoulder makes it less secure, especially when taking pictures or things you need two hands for, and it's also tiring on the shoulders. However, for the most part, I'm very happy with this purchase and will use it again for travel.

•   Love the size, looks, and security. Inside is so organized.

  Terrific Tote!
By Dee H., AL in July, 2011

•   Finally! Someone who travels a lot designed this tote. I ordered the small tote which has roomy and well-planned interior pockets that hold my e-reader, passport, phone, and other items where they can be easily located. While it has nifty security features, it does not feel different from an ordinary tote...no heavy, stiff handles and bulky feeling like earlier designs. I'm looking forward to using it for all my travels. I usually don't take the time to write reviews, but since I rely on them when I am shopping online, I wanted other people to know this is a terrific tote.

Excellent bag with some room for improvement
By Virginia G., CA in July, 2011

•   I was very happy that Magellan's came out with this bag shortly before our trip to Europe. I'd purchased the Vaultpro Max Utility Bag first and found that it was just a bit too oddly shaped and small for my needs. This bag seemed to fit the bill and was roomier and better looking, in my opinion.

What's great about this bag is that it's very secure, and you get used to the locking system quite quickly. I found that by unlocking one end of the zipper (the opening end, obviously), I was able to get to what I needed in my bag without having to undo both sides. The back side of the bag (opposite the lock) has a pocket where you can slide your train ticket, hotel key, or things you need to be accessible. Keep that side against your body and you're secure. The inside organization pockets are a bit soft, so some of the items I put in them fell out into the main compartment at times (lip balm, for example). The bag does fit an iPad if it doesn't have a case on it. My iPad (first generation) wouldn't fit with its case but fit fine when I removed the case. Still, I wanted to travel with the case so that was a slight limitation.

The biggest problem for me was the longer strap that is intended to go across your torso for security. This is my preferred method of wearing a bag for long periods of time (museums, walking, and so on). The strap on the Safe Passage tote is not much longer than the double handles it already has. Granted, I'm not a small person, but I could easily put the Vaultpro Max Utility Bag strap across my torso with room to spare. When I used the longer strap on the Safe Passage tote, it cut into my neck (it's thinner than the double handles), hugged too tightly, and was too high under my arm. The strap needs to be at least 6-8 inches longer and a bit wider to be comfortable for long-term wear.

With the exception of the strap length, I would recommend this bag and found it easy to use on our 3-week trip. It's very secure and stylish and has lots of extra room in the main compartment for small purchases, scarves, umbrellas, and so on.

Gets the job done - but not waterproof
By Tracey T., CA in July, 2011

•   I wanted a tote that I could pack into carry-on luggage easily (carry-on restrictions being what they are), and then use during the day on a European vacation. This tote worked fine, but a few caveats and comments:
- The photo makes this look leather-like, but it's simply a cordura nylon. I bought black, which looked ok, and maybe even semi-stylish from 20 yards.
- I felt my belongings were safe, as interior pockets let me stash extra cash or keys and the locking rings ensured no one could sneak something out of the bag.
- Given the material, I thought this would be waterproof. It's not. I was in Paris during a very rainy week, and on Day 1 after being caught in a heavy downpour, I returned to the apartment to find damp money, passport, and papers.
- I can't imagine the large bag - the small bag easily sufficed for me to hold wallet, Ipad, shopping bags (for a street market), travel umbrella, sweater. Once the Ipad is in there or you're "loaded up" the rings don't come together any more.

All in all, I got what I expected.

•   There are many good features in this bag: great fabric, security features, compartments for phone etc.. However, the bottom is too narrow, making the bag look "over-stuffed" when there are just a few items inside. If you do not choose to chip the O rings, they are disproportionate to the height of the bag and kind of look like wings.

  Not User Friendly
By Carolyn S., NV in June, 2011

•   I travel extensively and am looking for the perfect purse/day bag. This looked perfect...good size, attractive, security conscious. I was very disappointed upon arrival as it is bulky due to padding inside, the "floor" is not wide enough to stand up by itself so it flops over, and to unzip the bag you have to unfasten the "latch" each time. It was well made, and the inside pockets looked to be laid out well, but overall I was not impressed.
