I took this Sport Seat on a River trip to Europe last year and found it quite useful during the off ship walking tours along the way. A good cane and restfull seat. One of the rubber leg tips came off after I was home and Magellan readily replaced it. Now I've misplaced the original Seat and have bought a replacement. At under $30 they are a bargain! Highly recommended!

Excellent value. Very useful

I bought this last month for a trip which I am now on, and using it almost every day. As part of a group tour to Israel, we have gone to many places where the guide will talk for a long time. Sometimes there are rocks to sit on, but found the sports seat much easier to set up and use, even on uneven ground. As a walking aid, I wish it was 1-2 inches taller as I am 6 ft, but it definitely works fine for the purpose for which I intended it.
Also, Thanks for getting this to me so quickly.

Although I have not yet taken the sport seat on a trip (have booked one in the Spring) I was impressed with the comfort. It certainly does not look comfortable, but when I sat in the recommended posistion - with the handle in front - I was happily surprised.

SUGGESTIONS FOR IMPROVEMENT OF SPORT SEAT
By LEILA H., IL
in November, 2009
The "cushions" on the legs are very flimsy and wear out rapidly. They needed to be replaced with sturdy, heavy duty ones we purchased at various hardware supply houses. The seat is a bit small ... but otherwise I LOVE the sport seat. Especially helpful for arthritic people who are unable to stand in lines. Frequently it has helped being noticed by people in charge of long lines who have moved me up front for faster service. A bow, tied to the curve of the handle, pretties it up!

I am absolutely delighted with my Sport Seat. I had been looking for something like this for some time but nothing seemed to be available until I spotted this item in your catalogue. The Sport Seat is light, sturdy and easy to open. My husband thought it was so useful that he now has one, too. So we have his and hers. Now standing in line-ups no longer presents a problem for us, the seats really are a great help.

Since back surgery, the neuropathy in my feet has worsened and it's almost unbearable to stand for any period of time. I just got my Sport Seat today...WOW!!! I can see that this product is something that I will never be without. I've only had it one day so far, but Yes, It's a product that is going to be very handy to have around when I'm needing to be in long lines, or when i go somewhere that requires some time to stand for periods of time. WOW!!! It's Just What I've EVER Needed!!!

No longer homebound
By Mrs S., FL
in June, 2009
Prior to buying my Sport Seat I was homebound (felt like a shut-in at 45 years old!). I was unable to walk very far without needing to sit and rest and am unable to stand in lines. I feel free!!! My Sport Seat enabled my husband and I to take a 2 week trip to Israel and numerous other trips to visit family in other states. It is a pleasure to use in airports and it is a medical aid, so it isn't counted as a carry on. If I had bought 10 sport seats, I could have sold them several times over.

Good news for TALL people
By Lita M., TX
in May, 2009
My husband is 6'4' and the cane part isn't tall enough for him to use as a walking aid. After contemplating a homemade hack job to solve the situation, I was delighted to find on the bottom of the seat that it is made in the good old USA--in Dallas! I found them on the internet, called and was greeted by wonderfully personalized help. I custom ordered a Sport Seat with a taller cane for a mere $5 over the regular price!! The seat height remains the same (standard).
Oh how I wish we had these as we waited in the gruelingly long line at the Vatican Museum last October. Hubby has used his several times with appreciation as he has spinal stenosis. I will send our yet unused one to my cousin in Sweden who has health problems, but does like to stroll. Can't wait to get the TALL one! They'll definitely go on our future travels.
Ladies--as straddling is the correct way to sit on the Sport Seat, it is best used with slacks.

The greatest

This is the device that makes touring possible for me. I do ok with walking at a reasonable pace but the "Museum Crawl", or standing just kills my back. With the sport seat I can always take a break in the museum or sit when the tour guide stops to talk. Without it the pain is too great to endure. Because the airlines class it as a medical assistance device I carry it on board without any extra charges. Nor does it count against "carry on" luggage. It also often gets me a seat on the local transportation buses and trains.I have used other similar seats, some much more expensive, but none are as good as yours. Thank You Magellans, for a marvelous device.

I never take time to write reviews of products, but I feel compelled to do so here. I love this sport seat! I have arthritis in my knees. Walking isn't too bad, but standing is difficult, as is climbing stairs without a rail. I bought this for my trip-of-a-lifetime to Israel and Egypt. I used this as a cane, especially on stairs and uneven ground, and everytime the guide stopped to talk, I sat down. I don't think I would have made it without my sports seat! I rigged a strap so I could carry it over my shoulder. I highly recommend this product!

I purchased two products after a total stranger in a museum noticed me sitting holding on to a 'tennis ball' walker due to a temporary situation while my family enjoyed the experience of the museum. He said , "when you graduate from that thing, go to Magellan.com. They have a wonderful seated walker, which folds, and is extremely useful and comfortable to use. I have traveled all over Europe with that thing, and honestly, you will love it. I ordered and It is wonderful ! Truly wonderful.

The Seat is very much as I expected. One should be careful sitting down though. The best approach is to slide down the handle -- you want the handle at tight in your crouch as you can get it -- otherwise you risk falling backward.

This seat has been a back-saver for my husband (one big guy-300 lbs) whose back problems prevent him from standing or walking for any length of time. He's used this while in line at the airport, on tours, grandson's baseball games and any place where there are not seats for him to sit. It folds up compactly and the airlines allow him to carry it on board.

The folding seat cane=sport seat

This is the best item and the most useful cane I have ever had. I have to stop and sit down to get off my feet, legs and back-often and this is the answer. I have people ask me about it all the time. I got mine the first time from the "Sky Mall" magazine on the plane about 7 years ago and now I have ordered more as I need to keep one in each car. I always take it with me when I go shopping or walking anywhere so that I can sit when I need to.

I purchased this sport seat for my husband . He has since had hip replacement surgery so hopefully wont need it in the future. But it was perfect for our trip to Germany. It really came in handy for the times we had to stand in line or when our guide was telling us about different sites.

My husband has circulation problems in his legs. I bought this sport seat for a 12 day trip to Scotland. My husband thought he never would use it! He took it with him everywhere we went on the trip and used it every day. Waiting for trains, waiting for buses, walking to destinations, waiting in doorways. We referred to it as "the stick". The Scottish people said "you Americans think of everything"! Absolutely great! Thanks!

My mother can't walk far without having to "rest" as she's 76, soon to be 77, had back surgery which left her legs weakened AND recently had a heart attack (she's okay for now) so she's weak and tires easily. She's not willing to use the walker and she can walk so it's PERFECT ! She's even gotten many of her friends to buy one, too ! She gives them away to her family members, too. Only problem is she keep losing them now and then!

Even though I have had two back surgeries, walking and standing are painful. This cane/stool has made going out possible. Without its help I would not have been able to enjoy a tour of China. I must admit I was the center of attraction sitting on my stool in Tiananmen Square. Everywhere I go with my cane/stool people stop to ask me where I bought it. I highly recommend this item for anyone having back or leg pain. I now have two of these items in case something happens to one of them.

I posted a review for this product the year after I got it for a musical festival in New Orleans. It is at least 4 years since I purchased it It has been on a number of trips with me. I have needed to replace the tip protectors. Otherwise the seat has done very well for me. My husband is trying to figure how to keep it closed when I walk, but otherwise I recommend it. Many people have commended on how great it is to have a seat so available. It is comfortable for short periods: about 30 minutes.

First, the woman sitting on the "Sport Seat" (when you click on other images) is using the seat contrary to instructions. One mounts the seat like a horse. Second, I bought the seat several years ago but have never been able to use it as a cane (which I need) because it's too short for a tall person.

I HAVE A BAD BACK. I CAN WALK FINE, BUT WHEN I NEED TO SIT DOWN , I NEED TO DO IT, NOW! I AM A BIG GUY. THIS LIGHT WEIGHT CHAIR WORKS GREAT FOR ME. PEOPLE STOP ME ALL THE TIME TO ASK WHERE I GOT IT. THIS ORDER WAS A GIFT TO MY COUSIN.

My wife took this on a tour of Turkey, Greece and Rome. It was incredibly useful. Could have sold it a dozen times while standing in immigration lines or listening to tour guides. Carried it onto 7 planes with no problem or complaint. Had to remember to slap the seat closed tight or it would unfold.
By Peter R., MA
An excellent solution for those of us who need to sit in lines or listen to guides while standing. Also great for ascending and descending stairs. The seat does tend to come loose while walking but simple requires a tap to clip it back in place. I have recommended the sport seat to numerous fellow travelers. Suggest that you carry extra rubber tips to replace the ones that wear down to the aluminum while traveling and become dangerous on cement or metal walkways.

Four people in our Elderhostel group of 32 to Umbria were using the Magellan Sport Seat. One was using the Pack Seat. There are two things that would really help while traveling with the Sport Seat. One would be a carrying case, like a thin athletic bag. Since it has to be carried on the airline, and put in the overhead bin, a carrying bag would be most helpful. Another possibility would be a way to telescope the legs, so it could be put in a suitcase.
By Anonymous
I agree with the last person's comment. I did see (on another website) a seat with telescoping legs as well as one in which the legs folded up.This would be great for packing in a suitcase. I was a little concerned about the telescoping legs in that they could cause a serious fall if the person didn't get them right enough. The fold-up one looked much more stable in that the folds looked like they fit tighly into each other. The only one problem with this is that the cane seat had to be balanced in that it had only one leg, the cane itself. Being such an innovative company that you are I bet you could come up with a tripod with folding legs. Thanks for your help.
By Anonymous
I purchased the sport seat from a magazine on an airplane trip since I have been using it in crowded places I could have sold 25 of these by now very light weight comfortable and easy to cary and use as a cane
By Anonymous
It's true the seat opens sometimes when being used as a cane, but you can train your knee to give it a little closing shove without even missing a stride. This looseness allows you to open the cane with a well-placed kick to the nearest leg... Very convenient; you just have to get to know this friendly little "animal". I've used one for years. After leaving it behind on a bus once, I fashioned a short leash for it. And if you need a little more height, find an aluminum crutch at the thrift store and remove the lower leg... it fits snugly over the longest leg of your new cane-chair, adding just a bit of height, a sturdy cane tip, and making the whole contraption work better as a cane, especially on stairs. (A bit of duct tape or more attractive aluminum tape from the hardware store holds the extra leg in place.) Adding the crutch's foam handle gives a little more height and a softer touch. You'll love this traveling companion and will never want for a conversation starter. Even the French can't resist talking to you about it!

I first saw this combination seat & cane on a trip to India a few years ago, then regretted not having one on visits to Mayan sites a half-year later. This is a must-have aid for those of us who can walk with reasonable ease (even run a little), and can sit down, but whose lower backs do not tolerate standing in one place for more that a few minutes at a time. A curved, rather than straight-bar, handle would make it even more versatile for carrying on a trip. It is so light and so useful for standing in line that I wouldn't ever want to pack it away!
By Anonymous
My sister bought this sport seat and sewed a guitar strap on it to carry it on her shoulder and it worked great. It is very light and wonderful to have on long-winded tour directors. Plus it fits in the overhead compartment just fine.
By Anonymous
I purchased the sport seat last year for my trip to New Orleans for a music festivale. I looked at a few types. Since I weigh 255 lbs. I was happy to see that yours could hold up to 300 lbs. (the others werre only good for up to 225lbs.) Since I can't stand for long periods (I have a back problem), it was quite convientant and helpful as I visited the different musical sets. I was able to listen to the music in comfort. I now use it more often at home: for waiting on lines as well just walking. (I am to have a total knee replacement soon.)The only difficulty I have with the sport seat is that it can open as I walk. The latch doesn't always hold. I am sure that the latch problem can be corrected.

I have had a sport seat for three years through a cruise and a trip to Las Vegas. I have found it very helpful as my endurance is significantly compromised by Chronic Lyme Disease. I would like to see the handle changed so you could hook it over your arm while shopping or when you need a hand free,or to hook on the edge of a table while you are sitting at a table. I ended up putting a strap on it so I could carry it over my shoulder when not using it as a cane. Also after a while the seat mechanism gets loose and tends to slide down the cane while walking. I have put mine to a lot of use, and will be purchasing another one as mine got lost at the airport while going through security.
By Anonymous
I love my cane/chair and am the envy of all who are standing while I am sitting. It would be easier to carry if the handle were hooked like a regular cane so you could hang it over your arm.
By Anonymous
I love the sport seat without any type of adjustability. I am ordering two of the original style today because I have seen the version with adjustable height and telescoping legs and I am afraid you might discontinue the basic model. A travel bag for the seat would be really helpful, though.
By Anonymous
We think the sport seat is just great - certainly makes my husband have a much greater tolerance to going through museums or waiting on my shopping! However, we have now lost two of them by forgetting them in restaurants. My next one will be wrapped in high-viz duct tape or something that will make it catch our eye. Also, it would be very helpful if there were some sort of lanyard as it isn't always convenient to lean it up against something when you need both hands (and then, get left behind!).

Well worth it! A couple of years ago I took one of these on a trip to Egypt and Israel. I was the only one in the tour group that had one and could have sold probably twenty if I had them.
