Work side-by-side with other volunteers to protect these fragile landscapes from the wear and tear of tourism.Magellan's Travel Supplies is proud to support the Conservation Volunteers International Program and their vacation stewardship projects. CVIP is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving the world's greatest wild places and cultural sites. Volunteers spend 7 to 16 days in locations like Machu Picchu and Patagonia restoring archeological sites, planting trees, and repairing trails. Working with local volunteers and time off to tour nearby communities enriches the experience beyond traditional guided tours. Here's how you could spend your next vacation: Machu Picchu Sanctuary, Peru, November 7-21, 2009 & April 17 - May 1, 2010. Machu Picchu stands at a crossroads. In response to visitor impacts UNESCO may place Machu Picchu on the list of endangered World Heritage Sites. Volunteers are needed to help preserve Peru's famed Inca citadel, repairing trails, restoring ancient archeology, and planting trees. While visiting one of the Seven New Wonders of the World brings its own reward, working to conserve them brings even greater satisfaction. Conservation VIP is the first and only volunteer group authorized to work within the Sacred City. Rising from the flat steppes with breathtaking abruptness, the craggy mountains of Torres del Paine National Park in southern Patagonia are an astonishing sight. However, increased visitation has caused soil to erode into streams and lakes, threatened sensitive wildlife habitat, and created safety problems for visitors. Work with the park rangers to help protect the park and maintain park trails. Yosemite National Park, CA, September 27-October 3, 2009. Torres del Paine and Yosemite are dedicated to helping each other improve park management and operations. Conservation VIP, American Hiking Society & Yosemite Association will bring volunteers to Yosemite for a one week "working vacation" to maintain trails and restore damaged areas.
