I have asthma but recently my need for airway protection has become very necessary. I use my mask to protect my airways from irritants like wind as well as air pollution and it relieves symptoms. It is light weight and fits in a pocket. Washes and dries very quickly. I am purchasing a second one so I can keep one in my car and another in my purse. Yes I get questions but to heck with that, breathing is my first priority.

Cairo-level of particulate wonderful
As an asthmatic, who had lived in Mexico City and knows of pollution--I was concerned about visiting Cairo--the particulates are larger, due to sand. On the other hand, I thought I'd feel weird or uncomfortable with a mask. I got one any way. Arriving there with windows open in a taxi, I could chew some of the air so popped this on and it did the trick. Was very comfy--and trimmed some of the pollution enough to make me feel safe and not ill.
