Useful when you have limited outlets.
On the whole I believe this device is useful. When you have limited outlets in your cabin on a cruise ship, the monkey works for charging a tablet, phone or I pod simultaneously. I was not able charge my Nikon Coolpix with this device. It took longer to charge my devices than a regular outlet.
I used It in Europe with the adaptor and was happy to have the monkey because of the limited outlets in our hotel.
I have not tried to charge the monkey with the solar adaptor as yet.
I have used it in airports and been glad to have it. As you know, some airports have few areas for charging your portable devices.
I am happy that I purchased the monkey even with its limitations.

It's a necessary item!
Hands down, this is one of the best products I've ever purchased. We travel on a sailboat for numerous weeks each summer and it's difficult to always keep things charged since we don't have a generator but with the Power Monkey Extreme, I had no troubles at all last year. Every morning, I'd strap the solar panel to a safe location (depending on if we were sailing, motoring or staying at anchor) and set the device up. In this way, I was able to keep the battery pack charged almost fully the whole time. Then we'd plug in any device that needed to be plugged in from cell phones to GPSs to all different Apple products. It charged each item fully and still had plenty of juice to charge other devices.
We then fully tested the greatness of this after Hurricane Sandy here on Long Island. I had plugged this into the wall the day before to fully charge and we were able to even charge neighbor's phone and devices easily so they could run to get in touch with people on the outside (realize phone towers were not functioning and so if we could find internet, EVERYONE was there charging and keeping in touch). We never had to go anywhere to charge our devices whereas anyplace that had power - even the grocery store - every outlet was full of people trying to charge things!
The device comes with multiple plugs to be able to plug into outlets around the world and then with tips to be able to plug into most devices. There is a nice hard case that holds the solar panel and battery and then there is a drawstring pouch to hold the plugs and tips. The only thing I had to buy was a short USB to iPad/iPod cable but that now fits easily in the pouch with the other items. The solar panel and battery are pretty water resistant so even with rain or with salt spray as we are sailing, I don't have to worry about the Extreme being ruined by water. :)
So needless to say, the Power Monkey Extreme is a vital part of our emergency kit now as well as a standard traveling item.

I love love love this product. I have taken it backpacking, on hut trips, and business travel. It is super rugged and waterproof which is a huge plus. I can charge my iPhone 5 or 6 times before recharging the battery and my iPad almost twice. I travel for work and I am always killing the battery on my phone and with this I can charge up any time. For backpacking it has a solar panel to charge it up for long trips with no outlets.

Amazing! Kept my iPad and iPhone going all week.
I absolutely love this product. My family and I went on a week long camping trip in our pop up trailer and it came in super handy. All of us have phones that we use for everything from GPS to take photos and videos. We also had two iPad's with us. (Dad and I were both "working from home" for a few of the days) The battery itself kept all of our phones charged all week and we charged the battery with the solar panels only once. It was easy to use and highly effective. I would recommend this for any kind of travel where you will be gone for a while or you have multiple devises to charge.
