Magellan's On Tour Safari Dress

I purchased this travel dress to wear on the plane and out and about on holiday in Thailand this coming October/November. I'm 58 years young, 5'5", have a 38D bust and weigh 80 kg (176 lbs), with most of my weight carried on my hips, bottom and tummy. I ordered the dress in Savannah colour in size Large. First of all the positives. The material is really nice. It is light and soft and arrived unwrinkled. I can see it would be very comfortable to wear. Also, the pockets will be so handy, particularly the zipper pockets just below the waist at the front. They would be perfect for holding a passport as it would be so easy to get to when travelling through airports and checking into hotels. Likewise for keeping a credit card safe and handy. I hate searching through a bag for these at airports. The dress fell just below my knees which is the length I prefer. Now to the negatives, which I stress are only personal preference. I don't like the colour. To me it looks too much like a military green and I think that it makes the dress look too much like a military uniform. I also feel that it is a little too big on me, even with the drawstring at the waist. It looks a bit 'billowy' if there is such a word. However, because I like the design so much I've placed an order for another in a Medium size Black. I would have liked the light Khaki colour but it is not available. I won't return the one I have because the cost of postage is prohibitive. All in all a well designed, well made, functional travel dress.

Loved this dress so much re-ordered another in different colour. Fits true to your size with a touch to generous.

I bought this for travel. We travel a lot internationally. I bought the medium and wear a 10 or 12. It fits perfectly. I have not worn it yet but love the drape and fit. The fabric is not as heavy as it looks in the picture. Very nice. I bought the Savanna color. It is a nice neutral color.

The first time I wore this dress a button fell off. Before I wore it the next time there were two buttons that were barely hanging on. I like the dress, I just don't think I should have to sew buttons on a new dress. Shabby work quality.

This is a great dress that I use as a light jacket. I love the pockets and the easy fit.

Nice dress, good value, could dress up or down. Unfortunately it didn't fit me well. I'm 5'8" but short waisted (wear petite dresses), and the drawstring waist hit a little bit above my own waist. So probably OK if you're shorter, not so good if you're tall. Also I am slender and small on top (34A) and the size small was a bit too roomy across the chest and arms.

Very practical, wears comfortably, packs easily. Washes out well. What more could you ask for a traveling outfit. However, I find I wear it for more than travel.

haven't worn it yet, but love the idea of wearing to my destination of a trans-atlantic cruise. on the plane as a coat with long sleeve blouse & jeans. can't wait!

This dress is so smart and comfortable - and I should add versatile. The fabric is soft and flowly. You can dress it up or down, open or closed. Love it!!

I have this dress in the Savannah color, and it really compliments my standard travel wardrobe colors of black, white and khaki. I can wear it unbuttoned over slacks and a T as a long duster-style jacket, or buttoned up with the sleeves rolled up for a dress to wear to dinner. I usually wear a medium or 8 size top, and a medium (sometimes large) or 10 size bottom, but in this dress the Medium was too large for me, and I returned it for a Small, which fits wonderfully. I am 5 foot, 2 inches, and it falls to just below my knees, a length I like. The design is classic, and side vents and ability to cinch waist add some style.

On another matter, I returned a Cafe Coat that was too large and I did not like the fabric. I have yet to receive a credit on my Discover account for the coat.

Washes beautifully and hangs to dry quickly. No hot dryer needed. I love the fit and especially the zipper pockets. Very well made! This is a keystone of my travel wardrobe. Please do more in this line (design, fabric, style).

For general vacation use, it's a great choice to take along for most casual destinations. It's practical, durable, neat-looking, and packs well. However, if you are actually going taking your "safari" dress to a to a "safari" country, then also consider your height first. There, it might be best for women under about 5'7", as your dress or skirt should always cover your knees.

A bit longer than I expected (below knee), but the color, fit and fabric are great. I also ordered the On Tour Jacket and Pants, so there is a lot of flexibility with these items. It folds down to almost nothing for packing and sheds wrinkles.
