Don't Buy This One
By Joseph McAnally, Mabank, TX in November, 2012
Bought this last Chrismas season for my lady friend since we were planning a trip to Europe. We took the sleeves off just to check the procedure and zippers; then put them on and put the jacket away until we packed for Paris in September.
On the second day, she took off the sleeves. It turned rainy and cool a couple hours later, and we tried to put the sleeves back on.
No way. Cheap, cheap, cheap, soft, soft, soft zippers. Neither sleeve would reattach.
Worthless piece of junk.
For the rest of the trip, she wore the "vest" occasionally, and within a few days, it had little fur balls all over it -- you know, like a sweater gets.
This is the only thing I ever bought from this company, and it shall remain the only thing I ever bought from this company.
Junk. One star (required) is way too high of a rating.
nice jacket
By Kathy F., NM in August, 2012
I like this jacket because of all its pockets, is lightweight and packs small. It does wrinkle very easily, but my spray water bottle easily takes those out - just hang, spray and let dry. I would have liked the jacket to be a tad longer, and the draw-string waist to be lower (I am average waisted). I ordered black not only because I thought I would use it, but because I did not like the black tabs on the lighter fabrics, especially the chest. This jacket is best for between seasons.
Very disappointed
By Anonymous, Montreal, QC in June, 2012
Just came back from my two weeks European trip. Jacket/vest was helpful but the fabric is not as good as it seems to be. Jacket lost its charm - scratched marks - threads have been rubbed thin. It looks old and worn out. Would not advise to purchase this item. Fabric should be changed and may be, a hood to be added.
Great outfit!!
By Rosie T., Corvallis, OR in May, 2012
I read all your reviews before ordering this jacket and skirt. I like to hear the good but also want to see what the bad is so that I can decide. The reviews were right - it is very short waisted and I am very long waisted but I just don't use the cord to pull it tight. I did adjust it so it went in just a little bit so it wasn't ballooning. and it fits perfectly. I wear a size 10 and the M jacket and size 10 skirt are a good fit(except for the drawstring, like I already mentioned). the jacket hits right below my hip.The sleeves are a bit long but have a nice 3" hem so I just folded it up and it looks fine. Mine fits looser than the one on the model and that is what I wanted for traveling. I am now testing it to see if the wrinkles will come out. Skirt hit below my knee (which is what I wanted for foreign travel). The khaki is not the world's brightest color but at my age, I don't need it to be "bright". I wore it with a fuchsia turtleneck and another time, a black shirt and it looked really nice. So to the person who thought it was drab - dress it up w/ a bright shirt or turtleneck. This is a great neutral outfit that will go with everything when I travel. This outfit would not be good in winter but perfect for summer/spring/Fall travel. It's roomy enough for me to fit a lightweight sweater underneath. In fact, when I put the sweater on under it, the sleeves also still fit well; I didn't look like a stuffed marshmellow!! The only thing I wish it had is a hood for those "surprise" showers. AND I would have ordered the sand and black if they were available!!

I used and enjoyed this jacket as a vest on a recent trip to Europe. Only complaint is that the fabric is hot!!
Better than carrying a pocketbook!
By christine m., new york, NY in March, 2012
With all the pockets this jacket has, it's much more convenient than carrying a pocketbook. Your hands are free and your personal items are secure ON you! It's light weight and can be worn under another jacket if necessary. A tip is to test wear it before you travel so you can get used to designating specific pockets for certain items. this way you can find them right away, like your passport or license.
"Ranger Rick" outfit!
By Carolyn W., Greensboro, NC in March, 2012
I love to travel, but find packing everything I need in a carry-on bag is a hassle. This jacket and the matching convertible pants really meet my needs. They both fit me perfectly, and the pants were long enough (a miracle in itself). They are light-weight, quick-dry, and are perfect for layering. I think this outfit is the bomb, even though my children call me "Ranger Rick". (They'll probably want me to carry some of their things in my many pockets).
Beautiful Jacket, Cut Small
By Sandie R., Durham, NC in February, 2012
I loved the look and feel of this jacket, but I was disappointed in the size. After reading the reviews about the generous size of Magellan's clothes, I ordered the XL (which is normally what I wear), but it would have been snug with mid-weight clothes under it, so I returned it. I ordered the pants also and had to return them because they were too small.
Versatile
By Cathy H., near Charleston, SC in February, 2012
i wore this on a trip from SC to Costa Rica, starting as a jacket and finishing as a vest. I followed suggestions that everything could be stowed in its pockets and just shed the vest/jacket to go through airport security. I could have use another bigger pocket, but I found places for everything, although my camera wasn't as convenient as I'd have liked.
Thought I would like it, I did not
By WENDY P., aRVADA, CO in February, 2012
I've been looking high and low for a travel vest for keeping my camera and various other sundries. I wanted something lightweight and this is that for sure. I've looked at all 3 Magellan ones and finally bought this one (its a jacket and vest) but I'm returning it. Why? The waist IS VERY HIGH like an Empire waist but it doesn't look right. It just looks like it is ill-fitting. If you don't use the string to pull it in, it fits too wide. Pockets - as soon as you put something in the front pocket with some weight like a little DSLR it sags. The fabric is nice and light. Maybe it would be better in a dfiferent color but the beige is drab.
utilitarian
By Jo M., San Antonito, NM in February, 2012
This is a fnice jacket with lots of pockets for various uses. The waist drawstring is too highwaisted for most of us. I ordered one that had the credit card slots on the inside pocket sewn down the middle, making them unusable. It also had no "hand-warmer" pockets. The second jacket is better, although there are no credit card slots, only two deep pockets inside the large zippered pocket. I plan to attach velcro tabs to them to make them more useful. The second jacket has the "hand-warmer" pockets, but as another reviewer stated, they're so small you can barely get your hands in them without ripping the seam. The jacket is very lightweight and it looks great as a vest. I'll be trying it out on our trip to Dubai next month. It should make the torturous trip through airport security much easier. I think Magella's must be replacing this style with the new Adventure & Travel Utility Jacket, which looks wonderful. If it ever goes on sale and if it comes in black I will definitely be ordering one.
Returned
By Dianne L., NH in January, 2012
While this jacket was great in design, the color was not black, but more like charcoal gray. It looked odd against my black pants and skirts, so I returned it.

Side access pockets, please
By Pascale R., Manchester, TN in January, 2012
I would like to have side access pockets for hands (like the Travel with Ease Jacket). That would make this jacket/vest PERFECT!
Great lightweight jacket and vest
By carol c., Asheville, NC in January, 2012
I liked this jacket/vest so much, that I bought 3 more colors when they went on sale. It is very light weight. The vest is great for summer, with good inside pockets. If you want much in pockets , go up a size. The jacket is short waisted, I am short but still a bit high. I liked the style and weight of this jacket much better than the scott jacket.
Great jacket but flawed!
By Patricia D., Sun City West, AZ in November, 2011
I was thrilled to get this jacket at such a great sale price and was planning to order to matching slacks. However, now that I've tried it on, and despite the fact that I love the jacket, I will be returning it because the waistband/drawstring is too high - it should be at least 1 1/2 inches lower for an average figure - this one fits like a petite ( checked the label but it says regular). Also, I agree with a previous reviewer that the opening for the side pockets is too small, but I could have lived with that. The high waistline makes the jacket just too uncomfortable so I will return it. I'm very disappointed but now that I look closely at the model, I can see that the waistline is higher than one would expect on a jacket like this - it should be at your waist, not your ribs! I'm giving it just 2 1/2 stars!
great travel jacket
By verla f., fuquay varina, NC in November, 2011
I enjoyed wearing the travel jacket. It was so lightweight and kept all of my personal identification and money safe during my tours.
Great design, but ....
By Susan T., Huntsville, AL in November, 2011
This jacket design is perfect for traveling overseas! A pocket for everything and lots of zippers. The fit however is not for a tall, slim person (5 ft 9 in) who is long waisted. The draw string waist was a good 3 inches too high for me so I never pulled it in. I hope I can get a tailor make the necessary adjustment because I really like the functionality of the jacket. The sleeves are the right length and if you have short arms, they cuff easily. I received many compliments from others on my trip so I think we are agree, the jacket is a "keeper."
Jacket with inside pockets and removeable sleeves.
By Jan S., Lenexa, KS in November, 2011
When traveling, I always like to wear garments with inside pockets. This jacket is a good one. I am very pleased.
wonderful jacket :)
By Sharon M., Chaska, MN in October, 2011
this jacket is not only wonderful for travel, it is great to wear for casual occasions with jeans or khakis! the material is not heavy, so you can wear layers, to take off as the day warms up. I just LOVE it. I ordered the matching travel pants too! :)
Convertible jacket - Loved it as a vest.
By Marjorie T., Seal Beach, CA in October, 2011
I wore the vest every day while traveling in Greece and Italy. I did not need to carry a purse because everything I needed I could put into the pockets. The inside zip pockets are great for security to carry passport, credit cards, money, etc. I never used the vest with the sleeves. The sleeves are very thin and will not offer warmth. Also they were very hard to zip back in to use as a jacket.
Versatile and Sharp!
By JoAnn M., Ottawa, ON in October, 2011
I've been looking for a travel jacket which would work for out-and-about sightseeing during the day but also be tidy enough for evenings. This jacket fits the bill. It feels great, looks sharp and all the zippered pockets are very practical. The size I ordered is what I expected, so seems a true fit. I ordered black, but would say it's maybe a bit more dark gun-metal grey. It's actually a nice colour though and I'm pleased with it. My only suggestions for future versions are (a) bigger hand warmer pockets, they're currently snug and (b) a couple of extra inches of length at the back. Once I've got my camera, cell phone and ID in the front pockets, the front gets weighed down a bit and the back hikes up slightly. I like the inner mesh lining in the torso area, really good for breathability and air flow. All in all, very happy with my new jacket.
Glad I bought this
By Ruth R., River Forest, IL in August, 2011
The Travel Jacket in black is great. Most of these things are only offered in khaki and don't look as polished as black. I intend to wear it a lot this fall on an international trip and plan that with the many pockets and the zip off sleeves that I will wear it most every day, saving on packing too.
Great jacket
By Melinda H., Hudson, NH in August, 2011
I used this jacket during our trip to Turkey this summer. It was great to have my hands free and know all that I stored in the jacket was safe. The only draw back was that it was quiet warm, even in the vest mode. It would be great for weather cooler than the 80-90 range. Granted, In that weather even a t-shirt was hot! It was pefect for use on the plane, airports and cool evenings. I have fibromyalgia so this jacket will be a blessing for my shoulders and back. Even a small purse can be uncomforable on some days. I look forward to using it around town as the weather cools and use on future trips during cooler weather.
Travel Covertible Jacket

Been looking for quite some time for a 'break-away' jacket - AND, finally found it at Magellan's. Very pleased with the jacket !!!
ONE DEFECT THAT MAKES A BIG DIFFERENCE
By LENA W., CO in August, 2011
THE JACKET IS GREAT, ALL BUT THE SIDE POCKETS, THAT ARE BIG ENOUGH FOR KID'S HANDS MAYBE, I DO NOT HAVE WIDE HANDS, BUT THEY JUST WON'T GO INTO THE SIDE POCKETS, WHICH HAVE A VERY NARROW OPENING. I AM KEEPING THE JACKET FOR ITS OTHER FEATURES, BUT THIS ONE THING IS BUMMER FOR WHOEVER LIKES TO HAVE THEIR HANDS IN THEIR POCKETS SOMETIMES. OTHERWISE, IT IS LIGHTWEIGHT, HAS A NICE LOOK AND LOTS OF POCKETS!
New "Best Buddy" for my world travels!!
By Robin C., Carrollton, US in August, 2011
Just received my convertible jacket today! The color is what I expected and the quality is very good. I really like the material weight. I have a vest I've been using for the last 10 years and this one feels more confortable (without the "stiffness" of my current one. The only (small) complaint is that I will have to take it in to have the sleeves hemed as they fall over my hands. Your convertible jacket will be perfect on my January trip to Cambodia/Vietnam!
best ever travel jacket
By gail o., sussex, WI in July, 2011
I recently purchased this jacket in gray. I love it! It is very comfortable and really looks nice. It has the best pocket design that I have found in a travel jacket. The zip off sleves are wonderful. The jacket looks great with or without the sleves. My husband has just purchased one foe himself and I am considering purchasing one in another color.
Great jacket

Practical and Presentable
By Jana H., Seattle, WA in July, 2011
My work takes me to many climates and temperature changes, plus I always need numerous pockets. This easy to convert jacket/vest meets these needs. It is light weight, large enough to layer over a sweater; thin enough to layer under a warmer coat. It washes well, dries quickly and without wrinkles. And the best part: it is refined enough to look professional. I bought it on sale so splurged for one in each color. Very glad about that. They will get many years of hard use.
Great addition to travel wardrobe
By Andrea E., Pittsburgh, PA in May, 2011
I have several travel vests, but for a trip to Australia and New Zealand, I was trying to maximize the use of the items that I took. This worked very well. It was perfect to wear on all the flights (a dozen of them getting back and forth and in both countries). The pockets are all useful, particularly the pocket for airline tickets and passport. It was good knowing that where I kept things in it as a jacket were also right where they were as a vest. I also really like the fabric. I highly recommend this jacket/vest and expect to use it a lot.
