Dual Voltage Heating Coil

Do not buy this heating coil if you want actual boiling water in the US or Canada - i.e. on 110 volts. We have two coils. We filled identical mugs with cold water, inserted the coil, plugged in the coil - and waited. After 15 minutes the water in each mug had reached 180F. After 20 minutes it had reached 210F. Assuming you are willing to wait, this may be hot enough for some things, but it is definitely not a rolling boil, which one needs to make proper tea. I will take mine to Europe in late May, and have hopes that it will actually boil water there (and in less than 20 minutes!). But don't expect to use it successfully anywhere with 110 volts.

This is the only item I've ever bought from Magellan that disappointed me.

bought as a gift for my mother; she had an old one that finally died and wanted another for traveling. haven't heard anything thing bad about it so I'm guessing it works great.

Bought two for overseas travel. Both burnt out after one use. Disappointing. Do not buy. Shop around for something better.

This is a simple tool--it heats water in a cup. If you're a tea drinker, you know how often a coffee pot in a hotel room simply won't cut it for heating tea water. With this, you can simply heat water in a cup and make tea without the funny taste from a dual use coffee maker. It packs easily, takes almost no space, and works effeciently. We are quite happy with it.

this is perfect for anyone who travels and doesnt always have coffee/tea making facilities in the hotel room. Just a mug and the immersion heater is all you need to make coffee tea or instant soup at any hour it is not available. Great product-especially dual voltage feature!

ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT!!!

We were were in Italy for a week and none of the hotels in Europe have coffee pots in the room. We used this every day with Maxwell House coffee singles and enjoyed our morning coffe in bed! It worked very fast on the higher voltage. Make sure you let the water boil for about 1-2 minutes so it's heated through. ALWAYS UNPLUG IT BEFORE YOU REMOVE FROM WATER!!! Otherwise it will short out the unit. Coil very hot when removed, but just run under cold water and it's fine. It comes with it's own plug adapter which is great. I highly reccomend this if you are someone who must have coffee in the morning before you do anything!

I bought this for an upcoming trip to Italy and had read other reviews that said the voltage in the US was too low for it to boil water, so I gave it a try. Within ten to fifteen minutes, I had a mugful of water at a full, rolling boil. That may seem like a long time in this age of microwaves, but was pretty impressive for such a small, low tech device. The water was probably hot enough for a cup of tea or instant coffee in about 5-10 minutes. I'm sure that once I'm in Italy, with the higher voltage, it'll heat almost as fast as a microwave. If you can't live without your coffee or tea in the morning and aren't sure what the hotel will provide, I highly recommend this handy, little device.

Perfect for domestic and abroad travel. If I can boil water I can make a meal! So nice for that morning coffee or tea. I've used it for oatmeal, soup, noodles, hot chocolate and many beverages. Great for "just add water" freeze dried meals for rugged hiking trips.

This one is worth its weight in gold. On a recent backpacking trip, I calculated that is saved my around $950 between the coffee that I did not have to buy, the lunches that I could make in my room, the eggs that I could hard boil, I even used this to boil water to make spaghetti for dinner a few times. I could eat out of a grocery store for $2 a meal instead of a restaurant for $15 a meal. I now have 3.

I travel in Mexico a good deal and it can be a real challenge to get a cup of coffee before 8 AM. This item solved that problem. I pack this and some Starbuck's Via coffee packets and I'm all set. In 10 mins. I have my cup of coffee and am ready for the day. Reliable and cleans up easily. NOT FOR PLASTIC MUGS!!!

Quick way to heat water for tea, coffee or soups, noodles etc for those quick pick me ups in hotel rooms. Not Hi Tech.. but works

I was happy to find this coil to replace an old device for a Nov. trip to Italy. After a long day of sightseeing & before the customary 7:30 pm dinner, a hot cuppa was rejuvenating. I tried it at home but it took about 3 min. to get hot water. In Italy, I had boiling water in well under a min! Instructions don't recommend using with creamed soups, however. Comes with a drawstring pouch &adaptor. Picture is accurate. Tag attached reminding user to unplug before removing coil-important!

Unlike in America, you'll never have the luxury of a coffee pot in your room anywhere in Europe, so if you crave a cup of coffee first thing in the morning this little item is a MUST. I've ruined two of these coils by forgetting to unplug before removing from the water so tape a bright-colored reminder to the cord to avoid this mistake. Remember to pack a ceramic coffee cup (stuff the cup with socks or other clothing items to prevent breakage) and plenty of coffee bags. Truly a must have!

These things are wonderful when you want a cup of tea or water and don't want to leave the room. I always travel with one!

This takes longer than the microwave or tea kettle, so I use it only for travel. It makes all the difference in the morning in a strange place to have my cup of tea. This immerser works just fine and does the job.

This is a great item for travel, work for that quick cup of tea or heating up that cup of soup at your desk. I would recommend this Heating Coil to any one.

Love this, so easy to take with me and to use, doesn't take up any room. I've used it in the U.S. for tea, coffee, soup, and heating water for hot cereal, hope to use it in Italy soon.

Great product overall. I love this device for making coffee while travelling. Have tried different products through the years and finally got one that works right. Works awsome with Starbucks' new Via instant coffees (much better than instant and I've tried the folgers single serving bags like in the photo which are bad.) Would have given it 5 stars but the "burn shield" is a little hokey and the clip to hold in the cup broke 1st use. Tip: You MUST unplug B4 removing from cup or it burns out!

Just came back from Austria, Switzerland, and Italy where their coffee is quite different from ours. It worked great using the included adaptor. We put the coil in cold water first... then plugged it in...let it boil...unplugged it...then pulled it out of cup of water and used the coffee bags after that. We also let it reset before starting next cup. We used glass coffee cups, not paper or plastic.

It takes about 5-6 to heat a cup of water in the US with 110 power and while it gets hot, you never get a rolling boil. Internationally on 240 power, you get a full rolling boil in 2-3 minutes. Remember to unplug first before pulling it out of the water. In less than a minute of being plugged in but out of water, the unit will permanently die. Still one of the handiest things to have on a trip for a cup of tea!

Love this heating coil for my morning coffee, and never leave home without it!!

I have used this little gadget for years and years. Tea, hot chocolate, soup, whenever I need a pick-me-up and don't want to leave the hotel room to find a restaurant. Friends are often amazed that this little guy is still around.

Quite useful, but.... I gave two of them as gifts to my staff in a developing country. They thought it was a wonderful gadget, as they don't have to use as much fuel (of any sort) to use it. However, they didn't pay for it!

This immersion heater worked perfectly in Bhutan -- once. The second time I used it I neglected to follow the directions of keeping the heater immersed in water while it was plugged in. You guessed it -- it died, and I suffered from caffeine withdrawal for days. (Not a pretty picture) I am ordering two more for my next international trip.

The unit was overal fine except the "clip" that holds the heating coil against the edge of the coffee cup easily did break. It appears to be not a sturdy type of plastic.

While in NYC for the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade, our family used the heating coil repeatedly for hot chocolate, coffee, and soup to warm us up. It worked so well. We weren't sure what restaurants we would find open, so we planned to have one meal in our rooms, soup and crackers, with the pecan pie I had baked at home.

Purchased to use at work. Mother had an old one ever since I was a baby and it just died after 45 years! I truly enjoy a nice hot cup of tea at my desk anytime of the day!

This is an essential item for any world traveler who likes morning coffee - afternoon tea -or a cup of soup without calling room service! it is fast, efficient and tiny to pack.
